Renowned singer Adnan Sami has disagreed with Kanika Kapoor’s recent claim about the Indian music industry. Kanika Kapoor had stated that singers in India receive only a symbolic fee of ₹101 for their songs, instead of proper payments.
Different Experiences in the Industry
Adnan Sami responded by saying that payments in the industry depend largely on personal choices and agreements. He added that not every singer has the same experience and that one person’s situation cannot represent the entire industry.
He explained, “I don’t believe this is entirely true. Everyone has their own personal experiences. If this is what Kanika Kapoor faced, then that is her reality. But I cannot make a general judgment about it.”
Personal Example from His Career
Sharing a personal example, Adnan Sami revealed that he often chooses not to charge friends for songs. Recently, a friend sent him a beautiful song, and when his manager asked about the payment, Sami decided not to take any money. “That was my decision,” he said.
Music is Also About Choices
Adnan Sami emphasized that every artist and producer follows their own business principles. Some singers may choose to work for free or for symbolic amounts, while others may negotiate proper fees. According to him, this is more about personal preference than an industry-wide rule.
Kanika Kapoor’s Claim
Earlier, in an interview, Kanika Kapoor had claimed that singers in India are often underpaid. She stated that they usually receive only ₹101 as a symbolic amount and are even told that getting the opportunity
itself is a favor.
