Veteran Bengali actress Basanti Chatterjee passed away at her home in Kolkata at the age of 88. The West Bengal Motion Picture Artists’ Forum confirmed that the actress had been battling cancer for a long time.
Long Battle with Illness
According to reports, Chatterjee had been admitted to the ICU for several months. Following doctors’ advice, she was moved back home, where she breathed her last.
A Glorious Career Spanning Five Decades
With a career spanning over five decades, Basanti Chatterjee acted in more than 100 films. Her notable works include Thagni, Manjari Opera, and Alo, which earned her critical acclaim and popularity among audiences.
Contributions to Television
Apart from films, she was a familiar face on Bengali television. She appeared in popular TV series such as Bhutu, Borun, and Durga Durgeshwari. Her final TV project was Geeta LLB, during which she fell seriously ill.
