Veteran Pakistani actress Afshan Qureshi, also known as the mother of popular actor Faisal Qureshi, recently opened up about her love marriage and the reason she kept it hidden from her mother-in-law.
During a candid interview on Madiha Naqvi’s talk show, Afshan shared her life journey, touching on both her personal and professional experiences. However, what grabbed viewers’ attention was the adorable and emotional story behind her secret wedding.
A Love Story Born on a Film
Afshan Qureshi recalled that her relationship with actor Abid Qureshi began while working together on a film. Their friendship gradually turned into love, and they eventually decided to marry. However, only Abid’s brother attended the wedding.
She revealed that her mother-in-law was unwell at the time, and Abid chose not to tell her about the marriage immediately. As a result, the couple remained married for several months in secrecy.
Meeting Her Mother-in-Law for the First Time
After consistent urging from Afshan, Abid finally took her to meet his mother. Afshan described the moment:
> “She looked a little upset during our first meeting, but I walked up and hugged her.”
At first, her mother-in-law seemed strict, often scolding her, especially for speaking incorrect Urdu, as Afshan is from a Memon background, while her mother-in-law hailed from Lucknow.
Strict Yet Loving
Afshan laughed as she shared:
> “She would shout at me, but she deeply cared for me.”
She explained how her mother-in-law would cook for her, and whenever Afshan tried to stop her, she’d scold lovingly, saying:
> “You go from here!”
Abid would reassure her by saying, “She may scold you, but she loves and cares deeply.”
Afshan only stayed 15 days with her mother-in-law, but those days were enough to form a strong emotional bond.
> “She taught me so much in such a short time,” Afshan said.
