Kajol Stands by Deepika Padukone in ‘Spirit’ Film Row: Calls Work-Life Balance a Priority

Bollywood veteran Kajol has come forward in support of Deepika Padukone amid the rising controversy surrounding the film Spirit directed by Sandeep Reddy Vanga. While Kajol didn’t mention names directly, her remarks highlight the growing concern over work-life balance in the film industry.

Deepika Padukone reportedly exited Spirit after requesting 8-hour work shifts post-motherhood. Sources claim she also objected to delivering lengthy Telugu dialogues and demanded a ₹20 crore remuneration. Director Sandeep Reddy Vanga allegedly replaced her with actress Triptii Dimri and termed Deepika’s attitude as “unprofessional”.

Kajol Speaks Up on the Industry’s Work Culture

In an interview with Indian media, Kajol reflected on her early career choices. She emphasized working on one film at a time, avoiding the trend of back-to-back shoots.

> “I never worked 20 or 30 hours straight. I’ve always prioritized balance, and I never compromised on that,” she said.

Transitioning Into Motherhood: Support Over Time

Kajol shared personal experiences from her early motherhood. She recalled producers being understanding and cooperative, especially when she needed flexibility.

> “While shooting You Me Aur Hum, my father was hospitalized, and my daughter was only two. The producers ensured I could wrap up work quickly and attend to my family,” Kajol recalled.

Industry Experience Vs. Present-Day Reality

Kajol compared her experiences with today’s industry standards, pointing out that producers back then were highly accommodating—even without formal contracts.

She added,

> “Even during Fanaa, no written rules were needed. Everyone was cooperative, and the environment was smooth.”

Sandeep Reddy Vanga’s Indirect Response

Without naming Deepika, Sandeep Reddy posted a cryptic tweet, implying disappointment:

> “When I narrate a story, I expect trust. Breaking that trust isn’t feminism—it’s selfishness.”

His statement sparked criticism and speculation, with many interpreting it as a subtle attack on Deepika.

Final Thoughts

The Spirit film controversy has reignited discussions on professional boundaries, respect for personal choices, and the right to a balanced work environment—especially for women in demanding careers. Kajol’s remarks serve as a reminder that success doesn’t have to come at the cost of one’s health or family life.
